Cuando Herbert A. Simon murió, en 2001, dejó un caudal de realizaciones académicas extraordinario tanto por su amplitud como por su creatividad. Sus contribuciones a la psicología, la economía, la sociología y las ciencias políticas probablemente hayan hecho de él el científico conductista más distinguido del siglo XX. El libro que aquí se presenta, en una nueva traducción al castellano, dio comienzo y precedió notablemente a ese legado. El Comportamiento Administrativo contiene el marco para una teoría de la decisión que Simon aplicó durante toda su carrera, a medida que iba transformando las teorías de la firma y de la solución humana de problemas.

La década posterior a la Segunda Guerra Mundial fue testigo de un florecimiento de las ciencias sociales y del comportamiento en los Estados Unidos, con numerosas publicaciones muy apreciadas y a las que se cita frecuentemente. Sin embargo, resultaría muy difícil encontrar otro libro publicado durante ese período que alcance la preeminencia que posee El Comportamiento Administrativo respecto a las inquietudes de los académicos contemporáneos. El libro rebosa de ideas duraderas: fijó la agenda de los estudiosos y dio forma a sus conciencias durante sesenta años, y continúa haciéndolo hoy.
