Мера общего снижения диссонанса, использованная здесь и в описании результатов выше (табл. 3), представляет меру изменений привлекательности альтернатив по сравнению с фоновым уровнем — изменением привлекательности сходным образом оцененных предметов, не участвовавших в выборе. Тем самым было учтено влияние повторных оценок одних и тех же объектов.
