Modules of Alarm Measuring System
1. The typical electronic system comprises modules which arc designed for mounting in the control room desk or in a cabinet front. Here are standard modules: alarm measuring module, display module, selector module, bridge panel, cabin and mess panel, power distribution unit, central unit for data logging and alarm print-out.
2. These modules are identical in electrical and mechanical design. The modules are made of sheet steel and are provided with ventilation holes. The internal wiring is provided with a printed circuit backplate, i. e. the “mother board”, and ribbon cable. The front can be removed, and the electric boards can be inserted from the front. Each module has a circuit board for stabilizing the supply voltage to the electronics. The modules are interconnected by ribbon cable — the system bus — used for internal communication in the system. Process signals and the power supply are connected to terminals at the rear of the module on the terminal board. Hornetask\ Ex. 10, 15, 16.

Listen to the following definitions and explanations and then explain them to your fellow-student. Record your dialogue on a tape.
1. Alarm system is the system intended to give warning signal in abnormal conditions which may develop in the controlled machinery and as-
sociated automatic systems. 2. Automatic system is a definite number of components which form structural and functional integrity, intended to perform control and monitoring functions. 3. Automatic control system is the system intended to control the machinery without human interference and according to the specified control function. 4. Automated machinery is an engine, machinery installation or other device equipped with automatic or remote control systems.

Fulfil the following:
1. Name as many advantages of the alarm measuring system as possible.
2. Describe the construction of the alarm system.
3. Name the modules of the alarm measuring system.

Record your answers on a tape.
1. What are the electronic and alarm measuring systems designed for?
2. What standard modules does the electronic alarm system comprise?
3. What are modules provided with?

Fig. 6:
и — single convertor; b — double
The convertors are available with single-convertor arrangement and in double-convertor arrangement,
Single convertors. In a single convertor the thyristor's are arranged in a six-pulse two-way circuit (see Fig. 6,a).
A single convertor can supply current in one direction only, but its output voltage can change polarity. This determines the rotation and torque direction characteristics of the machine, as illustrated in Fig. 6,a.
