Papers relating to ecclesiastical preferment. Vol. I., from January 1586 to February 1587. The title on f. 1 in the handwriting of Gil Gonçalez Davila, to whom this volume and the next belonged formerly, is as follows: “Este quaderno contiene muchas consultas para obispados, abadias, prebendas de Iglesia, beneficios y pensiones, cartas de prelados para la Majestad de Felipe 2 o. en [agra]decimiento de los obispados que les hauia da[do], y memoriales en que le suplican algunos que con la poca salud que tienen en sus Iglesias los promueva á otras. Tanbien contiene el valor de algunos obispads y pensiones que se podian poner sobrellos, y un memorial que se dió contra un obispo de Cadiz cerca de su vida y costumbres y averiguaçiones que en raçon desto se hiço” ( sic ). The collector, Gil Gonçalez Davila, is well known as the author of Theatro ecclesiastico de las Iglesias de España e Indias , Madrid, 1662-5, 6 vol. fol.
