But that is another story to be told in another chapter.
“SATTVIC, (PURE, HEALTH PROMOTING) DIET DOES NOT MEAN SIMPLY THE FOOD WE TAKE THROUGH OUR MOUTH BUT IT ALSO MEANS THE PURE AIR WE BREATHE THROUGH OUR NOSE, THE PURE VISION WE SEE THROUGH OUR EYES, THE PURE SOUNDS WE HEAR THROUGH OUR EARS AND THE PURE OBJECTS WE TOUCH THROUGH OUR FEET AND HANDS. ALL THAT WE TAKE IN THROUGH THE DOORS OF THE SENSE ORGANS MAY BE DESCRIBED AS DIET. LISTENING TO BAD SOUNDS, LOOKING AT BAD SIGHTS, TOUCHING BAD THINGS DO NOT CONSTITUTE A SATTVIC DIET.”
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Chapter 2
“We really are what we eat”
“AS LONG AS MAN CONTINUES TO BE THE RUTHLESS DESTROYER OF LOWER LIVING BEINGS,
HE WILL NEVER KNOW HEALTH OR PEACE,
FOR AS LONG AS MEN MASSACRE ANIMALS,
THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER.
INDEED, HE WHO SOWS THE SEED OF MURDER AND PAIN CANNOT
REAP JOY AND LOVE.”
Pythagoras of samos
(Ancient Greek philosopher)
Long before we, as a family, had the good fortune of meeting Sri Sathya Sai Baba for the first time, we had adopted the vegetarian diet, as we were convinced that the only way to properly teach our children to love everything there is was to impress upon them the wonderful mysteries of compassion from an early age.
Obviously, we also knew that such a radical change in our social behaviour, as stopping the consumption of animal flesh would be, could bring some isolation into our lives, but we really were not prepared for what actually happened once we took meat off the menu.
At first it was a bit painful to witness how most of our friends and relatives run away in desperation. And we could forget about being invited to anyone’s place for a meal, as we became nasty outlaws literally overnight.
Most of modern society accepts the killing of animals as a necessary part of life, and mankind usually prepares our kids to see that side of reality without worrying about the wellbeing of what we call the “lower ranks of existence”.
The English language even has special words to identify some creatures used for human consumption, for example, the flesh of a dead pig is called pork, and the same trick is used to name chickens, cows and other farm animals.
The human diet is based on cruelty and ignorance, and it is no wonder that we suffer from so many mental illnesses, as we have been eating the terror and anguish contained in the dead flesh of the poor creatures we slaughter by the million, in the name of our insatiable gluttony.
The human race has a total disregard for some well-known facts in relation to what we eat, and society at large is paying a heavy price for our blindness.
We don’t care that our teeth and internal organs were not originally designed for meat eating, as the organs and teeth of other animals clearly were.
But okay, given that the present text is not meant to be a thesis on medical facts, I will stick to the spiritual side of reality and we will see how we go.
Not only are we responsible for the unnecessary and heartless death of millions of innocent animals, with all the karmic debt that come with it and that we must foot the bill for, but we also have a natural tendency to dislike raw meat, hence the need for cooking our animal-based meals.
If anyone would dare to say to me “I eat meat because I like the taste of it”, I would challenge them to kill a cow, using only their teeth, and then to eat the beast while its body is still warm and the heart is still pulsing, because that is what a meat eater would have to do in the wild.
What meat-eater humans really like is the taste of spices and additives added to the cooked meat, but not the meat.
Our digestive system has been perfectly designed to break down and process any plant protein in fruits and seeds, green leaves and nuts, but anything else would become a burden to our system.
Obviously, there are connotations of a different kind related to the spirit that would be more appropriate for me to discuss in a book of this kind, so I will get into them.
We were told that, if we were to work closely with the Elementals Forces of Nature, we would have to be physically clean and mentally pure in order to have access to the information we were receiving from the Devas.
Devas, Angels, Gnomes and all the other Light Beings or Demi-Gods, that appear in the folklore of most cultures, are absolutely real and can be contacted by humans at any time, but we must have pure intentions in order for them to respond to our request of contact, and a meat eater could never make that claim.
So, if we had the best intentions at heart, the Devas would communicate with us and guide us on the many matters related to cultivating different plants, whether we are talking about vegetables for human consumption, or if we were referring to companion planting and issues of that kind.
We, once established on our new environment, had to be able to feed the family, and to make sure that the grounds would go back to their pristine condition before we could get on with some other more complicated aspects of our work, so, as I said, it took us some months to get our act together.
It was around this time that the communications with Sri Sathya Sai Baba became richer and more complex, as He started to convey to me some aspects of His Avatara that even today are not well known, or perhaps I should say, they are not fully understood by His followers.
I started to receive alchemic formulae in the form of visual geometrical equations, and my task, as I understood it, was to put together a small series of audio-visual presentations that Swami named the “Holographic Parables”.
These presentations, along with a profound change in our diet, would promote the expansion of the human mind, and it would put us in tune with the new reality we were facing as we approached the end of the Kali Yuga and the eve of the Golden Era, the Sathya Yuga.
The way these presentations were developed is a bit tricky to explain, but I will try my best to get it right.
Once I was able to reach the meditative state, I would be “taken” to a different universe and some alternative realities would be revealed to me.
“Our human civilization” occurs on the third dimension, which is the lowest dimension where organic life could ensue.
Sri Sathya Sai Baba, or a Light Being designated by Him, would take me to visit much higher dimensions than the third one, and I would be asked to remember the images I had seen during our travels.
Then, after the meditation came to an end, I would be guided on how to merge the images together and to mix them with music, in order to convey certain cryptic messages to society that would start to dismantle the old and rigid thought structures, therefore making room for the new information at hand.
I have to say that most of what was showed to me was far beyond my human understanding, but I was told not to concern myself with intellectual rationalisations that would not take me anywhere near where I needed to go.
Once the first set of eleven Holographic Parables was finished, it was made clear to me that there was no point in simply adding on new data to our brain without the indispensable erasing of the obsolete one. So, the second set of eleven presentations came to the fore.
A new way of doing things would necessarily require new “settings” in order for our brain to be able to work on a pristine reality.
The way it was explained to me in order to make it easier for my old brain to understand it was that, we would replace the old copper brain wiring with the latest fibre-optic one, making our brains to behave accordingly to the new experience at hand.
Something somewhat unpleasant that I have to say at this point is that once the daily meditation was over, I would feel the need to go to the bathroom to evacuate so much stuff accumulated through the ages.
