It is nevertheless interesting to note, as Branko Milanovic has done, that while wealth inequality—driven primarily by stock ownership—is large and growing, there is no longer a true “capitalist” class as Karl Marx alleged in the 19th century. Wealthy households do get a large share of their wealth from “capital,” but not all of it: as a matter of fact, most “wealthy” people do also work for a living, having often well-paid positions in finance, legal, or medical industries.
