Continuing our discussion of the relationship of Gloria's case to current psychoanalytic theory, we come to Bergler's theory of oral regression. In Caprio's critique of the above psychoanalytic theories, the author states that:

the Oral Regression concept of Bergler is a very applicable one to many cases of lesbianism, particularly those who prefer cunnilingus to all other forms of sexual gratification. Ernest Jones, as far back as 1927, found that lesbianism was traceable to "an unusually intensive oral eroticism and an unusually strong sadism."

However, if we put aside the psychoanalytical approach, and look at the case more or less from an existential point of view, we see that the subject does not show any guilt symptoms resulting from her sexual activities. Although one might deduce that a certain amount of neurosis must be present when the subject engages in such unrestrained sexual activity, this does not seem to follow in Gloria's case. In fact, the subject is extremely feminine, and feels herself "made for love" with no distinction, as we shall see, to the sex of her partners.
