Ernest Forbes - It Is Time To Go Deeper

When I’m feeling really low it takes me high.

It has changed the way that I talk,

And has given me a new kind of walk,

It has opened my eyes so I can see,

Different and new things all around me.

It’s something that keeps me going from day to day,

Whatever it is, I don’t want it to go away.

It is something that is very deep and so wide,

And I know there’s something on the inside.

It brings a ray of sunshine to a dreary day,

It brings the colour of hope when you’re feeling grey,

It provides light when there is darkness all around,

It’s a strength that’s there to lift you up off the ground.

It leads, guides and it is a force that is so strong,

It clings to all that is right, and opposes all that’s wrong.

It is something that brings out all the best in me,

If it wasn’t for that something, I don’t know where I would be.

It gives me a new song to sing,

And to me, it’s my everything,

It’s a joy that surrounds me when I’m burdened down,

It’s a power that breaks the chains when I’m bound,

I know there is something on the inside.

We’ve got something on the inside.

It is a place of security, where you know you belong,

It stays with you; wherever you go it comes along.

Something that is so hard to conceal,

But something that is very much alive and real.

It is like the wind that keeps on blowing,

Something that keeps filling up and overflowing,

It’s like an electric current going through a wire,

It’s something that’s really hot, hot like fire.

It makes you wanna clap and shout,

And jump up and down and move about.

It’s a kind of love that makes you want to cry,

The tears flow, but you don’t always know why.

It is a type of food that tastes so sweet,

The more you receive, the more you want to eat,

That’s how I know there is something on the inside.

The Bible is God’s Word all the way through,

But what is it used for? And why read it?

What can we receive? What can it do?

Why do we really need it?

It is a map you use for direction,

It is a compass that points the way,

It’s profitable for doctrine, for reproof and correction,

It’s the gospel of truth that will never pass away.

They are words that comfort the soul, it quickens and revives,

The anointed Word is both inspiring and encouraging.

The Word of the Lord is pure and will always remain alive,

The Word is God’s set standard for holy Christian living.

It is filled with prophecies, promises and revelations,

They’re words that can give life and hope to a dying soul.

The holy scriptures are able to make you wise unto salvation,

They give you the strength you need to reach that desired goal.

It’s our inheritance of covenant promises, which cannot be altered or shaken,

They are promises from God, there for us to claim,

They have been sealed, secured and God has promised they will not be broken,

They’ve been given by the inspiration of God, receive them in Jesus’ name.

The law of the Lord is perfect as we have read and heard,

But it’s not just a case of reading it because you think it’s right to do so.

Instead we must have a spiritual desire and hunger for the Word,

Receiving spiritual food we need to make us grow.

It is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword,

Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,

Making it active and effective, that’s the Word of the Lord,

Which cuts into the deepest parts of our nature as we ‘live it.’

It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,

And of the joints and marrow, cutting all the way through.

If you haven’t yet examined the Word deeply, now’s the time to start,

Because it will divide as it penetrates. Why? ’Cause God’s Word is true.

It has to be accepted as it is written and not as we see fit,

It is not to be misinterpreted or misused,

We just can’t apply part of it, but all of it,

It shouldn’t be taken out of context or confused.

The Word is and will always be, the beginning and the end,

Digest this spiritual food every day and every minute,

Because it’s the sword of the Spirit and on it we can depend,

Be at a place where you just cannot do without it.

You can never get enough of the Word, even when it starts to overflow,

The unmoveable Word of God is what we all need.

The Word is never outdated and reveals all that we should know,

Take a hold of it because it is satisfaction guaranteed.

God has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light,

But it’s not enough just to be called, even though it’s such a delight.

But how you affect the darkness depends on your life, how much are you giving?

Are you ready to succeed in every area of your Christian living?

It’s when you do what you’re called to do, that you cause the devil to be upset,

It’s when you pursue your purpose with fervency, that you become a threat.

You occasionally turn up for church on Sunday morning only, a casual churchgoer,

You’re not really committed to any standard God has set; you’re satisfied with living lower.

You’ve read about evangelism, had soul-winning seminars, but you won’t go into action,

You still come inside the four walls of the church, to be preached at for spiritual satisfaction.

You couldn’t care less about your pastor’s vision, or what he has planned to do,

You’re so caught up in your own things; you say it’s good enough for the church but it’s not for you.

The devil isn’t so bothered about you, so he won’t pursue,

Because you’re not a threat, he’s not concerned about you.

You have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you say you know it all,

But when you’re asked to do something in church you reply, ‘Me, thou shalt not call.’

You’ve become so holy and spiritual, you’ve lost your zeal to fast and pray,

Filling your belly with food has become more important, somehow you’ve lost your way.

Some of you have to be told to lift your hands and praise the Lord; you’re like puppets on a string,

You’ve become so cold and quiet as if you haven’t been blessed, as if God hasn’t done a thing.

He didn’t give us gifts and talents to bury in the sand but to use,

Instead of making good use of them, we just stand still and refuse.

Well, the devil isn’t worried about you; he wouldn’t even waste his time,

He’ll just say to you, “Carry on with what you’re doing, that’s just fine.”

Are you a threat to the kingdom of darkness?

There are Christians who are a threat to the kingdom of darkness, who follow and obey leadership,

They don’t forsake the assembling of themselves together, but they come out to enjoy fellowship.

They are the ones who aren’t afraid to share the gospel with whoever they meet,

It’s the few that are willing to be different; they’ll stand for the truth whether at home, at work or on the street.

They don’t just read the Word but do research, studying to show themselves approved.

They’re intercessors; they fast and are strong in spirit, on a rock that cannot be moved.

They don’t have to be told to praise God, but there are praises inside them just waiting to come out,

The type of Christian that’s full of joy and can’t keep quiet – they’ve always got a shout.
