Foreword Foreword Dear readers, in today's modern world we have almost everything we need to live. What you need, you can buy: material things, medical help, support, care, etc. However, there are a number of situations that we cannot deal with ourselves and where also help from others reaches its limits. In this section we are dependent on God's help. That God is very merciful and just waiting to help us lovingly, is unfortunately often forgotten today. He respects our free will, that means, we shall ask Him, then He will help. He wants us to do a concrete expression of will: this is the prayer. - "Ask, and it will be given you" (Mt 7,7, ESV) - as stated in the Bible. The most effective and most powerful prayer we Catholics have, is the Rosary prayer. Strictly speaking, it consists of the most important basic prayers that are associated with the life of Jesus - a simple but ingenious combination! More about the powerful effect of the Rosary can be found here in this book. What is the Rosary? What is the Rosary? The Rosary is a contemplative prayer, that means, you concentrate on a specific theme from the life of Jesus and Mary for ten sections (in German called "Gesätzchen") at a time. In the initial phase, you'll still mainly focus on the text of the prayer. Later it will become increasingly easier for you to detach your mind from the text, and start contemplating it. So you let the biblical events pass by your inner eyes. Through the daily recitation of the Rosary you'll deepen these meditations more and more. You'll literally "grow into" the biblical events. In this way, you bring the events that took place 2000 years ago, into the present, into your personal life. You become a witness of Jesus' life and an active spectator of His birth, death and resurrection. In this way, you strenghten your bond with Him. This, however, isn't only the result of your personal participation, but is where the grace of God starts:God approaches you in the same way as you approach Him! - This is the mystery of the Rosary! As a result of that, over time a special, intimate bond between God and you will miraculously be emerged. A familiar relationship, from heart to heart, will be formed. The Rosary will become dear to you; you'll miss it painfully if you don't even have the opportunity to pray. The Rosary is like a bond that unites us with God. This band is round, like a loop. This prayer can also be a metaphor for our lives. The rosary is like a railing that we can hang on to, and always stay in touch with God.
When to pray the Rosary? When to pray the Rosary? The recitation of the Rosary usually takes 30 minutes. There is always time for this during the day. One can pray it wonderfully in between. Take advantage of times when you are e. g. on the road, in the car, on the bus, on the train or if you just wait for the train. Also in the evening you can well pray the Rosary if you simply refrain from watching TV. Equally, you can pray during a pilgrimage, on vacation, during a walk, a hike. - Of course, in the church, alone or in community. If you want to do it officially, you have the opportunity to join a prayer group. You should always carry the beads with you, either around the neck as a necklace (which is now regarded as a fashion accessory), in the handbag or purse. There are rosaries in different forms, e. g. as a bracelet. So use specific phases during the day in which you have 30 minutes. Also at night when you cannot sleep: instead of waiting for sleep, you can pray the Rosary. So you see, you don't necessarily have to take the time, but just use those time gaps that open up between .
