To understand how the left gained control over American politics and culture, you have to read their master strategist, Saul Alinsky, who was Hillary Clinton’s mentor and whose ideas Barack Obama studied and then taught in college. Read Alinsky’s handbook Rules for Radicals , and then the late Andrew Breitbart’s superb Righteous Indignation: Excuse Me While I Save the World! , which has the best summary I have read of the Gramscian infiltration of American politics and culture.
More details of the Left’s radical evolution are provided by Bryan Burrough in Days of Rage: America’s Radical Underground, the FBI, and the Forgotten Age of Revolutionary Violence and by Michael Walsh in The Devil’s Pleasure Palace . See also the multiple works of David Horowitz. For example, his series The Black Book of the American Left .
Once you know what the enemy has in store for the republic, you need to know how best to respond. Go back to basics first with Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville and The Federalist Papers . Place it all in the broader context of Judeo-Christian civilization with Rodney Stark’s How the West Was Won: The Neglected Start of the Triumph of Modernity and then read any of Mark Levin’s crucial books on the defense of our Constitution and the republic.
Last, if you want to understand how we are again winning and taking back our nation, you must read Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal . Until, of course, my next book is out.
If you absorb all of the above, you will be part of the rebuilding and regeneration of the greatest nation on God’s Earth.
APPENDIX ONE
America and Israel: Two Nations, One Destiny
America is a very special nation. So is Israel. There is a reason the phrase “Judeo-Christian civilization” starts with the word “Judeo.”
The people of Israel are an ancient people whose history is chronicled in the most famous book there is and ever will be: the Bible.
The modern state of Israel was built against all odds by the survivors of the worst crime in all human history, the Holocaust, and a small group of other Jews who had been denied their homeland for centuries.
Today, with Donald J. Trump in the White House, we have the most pro-Israeli administration in America’s short history. And this is a good thing. Because the Israeli people believe in what Americans believe in. They believe in individual liberty, in representative government, and the inherent dignity of all human beings as created in the image of God, and that is why they are our closest friends in the Middle East.
It was one of the high points of my time as Deputy Assistant and Strategist to President Trump to be asked to address the organization Christians United for Israel, on November 13, 2017, in the sixty-ninth year of Israel’s rebirth.
Here I would like to share with you my thoughts on who Donald Trump really is, what his presidency means for Israel, why our bond is so deep, and the common enemies we face.
Let me start with a story of a young boy—a young boy who was nine years old when World War II broke out.
In the next six years, he saw his beloved city where he was born and raised, the beautiful city of Budapest, almost totally destroyed. He saw fascists take it over. He saw Nazi troops occupy the country and three out of every five buildings bombed by the end of the war.
During the war, after the fascist takeover, that young man would escort his schoolmates to school at the age of fourteen. He was born and raised a Catholic, but he had best friends at school who were forced to wear the Star of David by the Nazis because they were Jews. To stop them from being spat at and abused by the occupying Nazi forces, he would escort them every day to and from school. But then. it ended.
In 1945, Budapest was “liberated,” and this young fifteen-year-old thought, “Now we have a chance.” Why? Because he heard that the great men had sat down at Yalta and had come to an agreement, and they decided that countries like Hungary would finally, after years of devastation, be allowed to be free again, to choose their destiny as democracies, as free nations. So he had hope. But what happened?
Over the next three years, as this young boy grew to manhood, he saw his country not under the shackles of Nazis, but now under the shackles of another dictatorship—a communist dictatorship. The promises of Yalta were not to be. There would be no freedom. There would be a one-party state, and if you disagreed, you would be abused. You would be arrested and potentially disappear.
So what did he do? At the age of eighteen, when he started college, he said, “I’m going to resist the dictatorship. I’ve seen the fascists, and I don’t like the communists. But I can’t do it with a gun. I can’t do it with bullets. I will do it quietly. I will do it secretly.” He identified a small group of Christian students, patriots in college with him, and they collected sensitive information about what the Soviets were doing and how they were taking over Hungary. They smuggled that information out to the West, hoping that some nation could help them, use that information to liberate Hungary and the other captive nations behind the Iron Curtain. But the bad news was that when they finally connected with a foreign intelligence service, it was MI-6, and the coded missives that they were sending across the Iron Curtain were landing on the desk of one Kim Philby.
Kim Philby, as you may recall, was one of the five Cambridge Apostles, the deadliest traitors of the Cold War. Kim Philby collected the information, ran that group of young men for six months until he could identify every single one of them, and betrayed them to the KGB in Moscow and to the Hungarian Secret Police.
As a result, that man was arrested at the age of twenty and tortured by the secret police—in many cases, communist secret police, who just a few years earlier had been members of the Arrow Cross fascist regime. He was given a life sentence. He spent two years in a prison coal mine and two years in solitary. But then in 1956, his life changed when a group of young patriots captured a Soviet tank and, as part of the Hungarian Revolution, liberated that young man from that political prison. And with the seventeen-year-old daughter of a fellow prison inmate, he escaped to the West.
Now why do I tell you this story? I’m here to talk to you about America, Israel, and national security.
I tell you this story so you understand my perspective, because that man, of course, was my father. As a result of the history of my family, I look at the threat our two nations face today, and it is very easy to understand. There is a connective tissue between the Nazis of World War II, the communists of the Cold War, and groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, and al-Qaeda. The connection is that they are all totalitarians. You cannot negotiate with Hitler, and you cannot negotiate with a jihadi. They will either kill you or enslave you. Or you will defeat them.
Today, you must have faith. Why? Because a man called Donald J. Trump is the president of the United States. Let me spend a couple of minutes telling you about who this man is. Oh, and by the way, “fake news” didn’t begin in America. I think all our Israeli friends know where fake news started; fake news started in Israel. Fake news is not new to our Israeli friends, whether its articles are written about the Israeli Defense Forces or the BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) movement. Fake news may be new to Americans, but not to our friends in Israel.
So what do you need to know about Donald J. Trump?
Let me tell you a few things about the man and his team. I first met Mr. Trump when he invited me to New York in the summer of 2015 to come talk to him about national security issues in preparation for one of the Republican debates. What did I realize immediately about this man? This man is kryptonite to political correctness. Within seconds of our meeting, I immediately took a shine to this businessman from New York. Why? Because he had no time for political correctness. Secondly, he is a man who instantly communicated one thing to me: we, as a civilization, are at war. We stand for Judeo-Christian values, and we face a deadly enemy around the world who wishes to destroy those values. Not only did this man communicate that he understands we are at war—which was very refreshing, given the prior eight years—he also communicated the most important thing, which made me want to work for him. He wants to win that war.
