That afternoon Beth and her children were very busy cleaning the cabin, repairing the drapes, making sure all traces of Jerry and Abe were gone. Tim even washed the dust off his car to remove the desperate message.
As Martin Hale drove along the highway and watched for the turn toward the lake he passed a large man, walking slowly, his head drooped down. He kept going even though the character threw out his thumb to ask for a ride; Martin never picked up hitchhikers, He took little note of the fact that the highway patrol car following him pulled over to check the man out. His mind was on something else.
When Sherry got drunk she didn't miss a trick. That's why Martin had gotten her good and loaded the night before, she was like putty, anything he wanted he got. Only one drawback, when she's drunk she never shuts up. Martin figured it would be worth it. Then she started the 'marriage' talk, the little hints about him divorcing Beth and making their relationship one blessed by the church and sanctioned by the state.
Bullshit to that, was Martin's reaction. He may not have been totally thrilled with his marriage but he knew a good thing when he had it. No way… he made the mistake of saying, "No, I can't bear to tell my wife."
"Oh, Beth?" Sherry giddily replied. "She knows."
"What?"
She burped and rolled seductively over on the bed. "She knows about us… she's known for quite a while now."
"What the hell do you mean? How do you know that?" Martin stammered.
"I know because I told her," Sherry giggled.
"You what?"
Her fingers came to her lips as she sputtered "I phoned her up and told her. I was tired of deceiving her."
"You? You were tired? I'm the one deceiving her! Who the hell told you to call her?"
She sat up, the beige nipples and pure white breasts bouncing like fluffed pillows. "No one told me! I decided all on my own! After all I have my rights too!"
Martin found the turn and swerved onto the dirt road. He had almost given Sherry a right, a right in the chops. He remembered screaming and throwing her out like a crazy man… hell, he was crazy, crazy to trust the dumb bitch. The car bumped along the road and he hoped something would come to him, some way to explain it all to Beth and let her know it would never happen again. That he was a changed man, that he begged her forgiveness.
Beth stood by the window watching Jane float on the lake atop the yellow air mattress. Only one thing was different, Jane wore a blue bikini and not a red one. The red one was beyond repair, but luckily Martin had no idea the blue one existed; if he noticed the change, Jane was going to say she had bought two.
Tim was nowhere to be seen, probably off fishing. With a warm smile on her face Beth wondered what to do about Martin and his big-titted girlfriend. It no longer mattered, Beth felt no jealousy or anger anymore. She had her own compensation for Martin's unfaithfulness, and he was free to do what he liked. She only hoped he wouldn't bring it up; Beth wished to avoid a scene.
Martin made the last turn on the road and saw the green grass meadow off to the right, then the cottage was straight ahead, Tim's car parked alongside. He pulled up and saw Jane out on the lake, still in that skimpy blue bikini, getting darker every day. As he turned off the ignition he paused, the explanation he hoped would come to him during the drive hadn't materialized. He only had one idea and it wasn't much.
"Hello, honey," he said to Beth as she greeted him at the front door.
Their mouths met and they hugged briefly. Beth pulled away and asked? "How was your trip?"
He grimaced. "Oh? it was all right. Dull. I couldn't wait to get back."
She shrugged.. "That's too bad. But you're back now and can enjoy yourself."
"Yeah," he said. Then he added very casually, "You know, I decided something."
"What?"
"I'm never going to let business interfere again. I mean with things like our vacations and our time off together. My family is too important to me to take it lightly, I should spend more time with my wife and kids."
"Oh? Was the trip that disappointing?"
He watched her face for any sign that she understood what he really meant. Her soft brown eyes told him nothing.
"The trip was a waste of time. Time I should have given to you and Beth and Tim. I'm sorry I left."
"Me too," Beth said. She hoped her eyes wouldn't give away the fact that she wasn't sorry at all, and she added, "But you're home now and everything is back to normal."
"Good."
Beth watched her husband as he went into the bedroom to change and a whimsical smile came over her face. She knew what he was up to-he had finally found out she knew about Sherry and was scared to death. Well, she'd never say a thing, never… just let him stew. And if he proved true to his newly expressed intentions she might even reward him with something he'd have trouble finding very easily among the girls at the office… something not every woman will do. And be able to do it an anus rated quite highly by a man who was familiar with such things.
