With regard to other politicians written about in connection with the Iranian exile group, the New York Times indicated that two former CIA directors, a former FBI director, a former attorney general, President Bush’s first homeland security chief, President Obama’s first national security adviser, big-name Republicans like former New York mayor Giuliani and Democrats like former Vermont governor Dean had been well paid, collecting fees of $10,000 to $50,000 for speeches on behalf of the Iranian group.
The Washington Post is much more vague on the issue of payment, mentioning almost the same list of names plus a few more, but not delving into how much they were paid aside from a free trip to Paris for a rally.
Three of the people mentioned above acknowledge having accepted money (see Elizabeth Flock, “Iranian Terrorist Group M.E.K. Pays Big to Make History Go Away,” US News , July 6, 2012 [http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2012/07/06/iranian-terrorist-group-mek-pays-big-to-make-history-go-away-iranian-group-mek-lobbies-hard-pledges-peace-as-it-pleads-case-to-be-delisted-dc-listening-terror-group-pays-to-make-history-go-awayseries?page=2]).
