Never had he felt so close to his objective as now – and yet it was all wrong! This wasn’t where he was so supposed to go. He wanted to go to a valley up in the mountains!

He wanted to go down there as well. But first of all?

What was the point of standing here, wasting his time while his strength was vanishing?

In the daytime, people would move about on the big farm. He didn’t like people. At night the doors were locked. He had been down and tested them the night before. Of course, he could break the locks as easily as anything but since he didn’t know what he was looking for ... And then somebody would come and he would have to kill again, which irritated him.

Far away to the east the big light was rising. The Beast showed his teeth, hissing at it. He didn’t need light because he could see just as well in the dark.

Then he cast a final, furious look at the tempting farm down there and turned around. He walked with painful but energetic steps northward once more. Back to the valley he had once come from, far up in the mountains. Maybe this was where he would find the answer to the enigma? He needed to be allowed to lick his wounds in peace without being chased by creepy people.

Like an animal that wants to hide away when it is hurt, the Beast sought the hidden ravines in the valley he had originally come from.
