Professor I. Fofana, SMIEEE, Chair‐IEEE DEIS Technical Committee on Liquid Dielectrics

Professor and Director, Research Chair on the Aging of Power Network Infrastructure (ViAHT),

Issouf Fofana (M´05‐SM’09) obtained his electromechanical engineering degree in 1991 from the University of Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire), and his master's and doctoral degrees from École Centrale de Lyon, France, in 1993 and 1996, respectively. He was a postdoctoral researcher in Lyon in 1997 and was at the Schering Institute of High Voltage Engineering Techniques at the University of Hanover, Germany, from 1998 to 2000. He was a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung from November 1997 to August 1999. He joined Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), Quebec, Canada, as an associate researcher in 2000, and he is now a professor there. Dr. Fofana has held the Canada Research Chair, tier 2, of insulating liquids and mixed dielectrics for electrotechnology (ISOLIME) from 2005 to 2015. He is actually holding the research chair on the Aging of Power Network Infrastructure (ViAHT), director of the MODELE laboratory, and director of the International Research Centre on Atmospheric Icing and Power Network Engineering (CenGivre) at UQAC. Professor Fofana is an accredited professional engineer in the province of Quebec and fellow of the IET. He is currently a member of the DEIS AdCom and member of the international scientific committees of few IEEE DEIS‐sponsored or technically sponsored conferences (ICDL, CEIDP, ICHVE and CATCON). He is a member of the ASTM D27 committee. He has authored/co‐authored over 300 scientific publications, two book chapters, one textbook, edited two books, and holds three patents.

Dr. R. Sarathi is a professor of High voltage engineering with IIT Madras, India. He has rich and varied experience of over 25 years in research, teaching, and consulting. He has been instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the state‐of‐the‐art High Voltage Laboratory at IIT Madras. His research area includes condition monitoring of power apparatus, development of nanocomposite structures for power apparatus and pulsed power technology. He reached HAG scale few years before. He guided 23 PhD scholars and around 15 MS (by research). He published his work in around 175 peer‐reviewed international journal publications. He visited Akita University, Japan, as a JSPS Fellow; visited Technical University, Munich, as DAAD Fellow, and served as visiting researcher in leading universities such as Nagaoka University, Japan, Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, Kyushu University, Japan, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, and Waseda University, Japan. He received UKIERI project, an international collaboration initiative on Innovation in high voltage insulation for electrical energy networks. He is a member of Indian Standards on High voltage testing techniques, CBIP distribution system, International Reference Group for SweGRIDS, Sweden. He is a senior IEEE member, IEEE Madras Section PES Chair, Fellow, Institution of Engineers, India, FNAE, FIET, and FRSC.
