Все эти общественные места были исключительно мужскими. Архиепископ Флорентийский (и будущий святой) Антонино Пьероцци считал, что женщинам нельзя «скакать по пьяцце». Он не советовал женщинам даже стоять в дверях или выглядывать в окно. По словам архиепископа, женщина должна появляться на улице лишь по пути в церковь – разумеется, в сопровождении родственников.
