Still, just about every Democrat presidential candidate jumped on board the AOC crazy train because they were unwilling to take on a freshman congresswoman who was elected in a district that Nancy Pelosi said a glass of water with a “D” on it could win—and who, after being sworn in, could not name the three branches of government. This is who they wouldn’t stand up to? There needs to be an adult in the room, but there isn’t.
Of course, they had ulterior motives, as most career politicians do. The Green New Deal is less about the reduction of fossil fuel and more a progressives’ letter to Santa with a list of all the gifts the liberals want for Christmas. If they couldn’t stand up to AOC, good luck with standing up to China and North Korea.
In an article she wrote for the Intercept , Naomi Klein, an author, anti-Trump feminist, and AOC supporter (and Canadian, by the way), explained the reach a select committee steering the deal would have: “By giving the committee a mandate that connects the dots between energy, transportation, housing and construction, as well as health care, living wages, a jobs guarantee, and the urgent imperative to battle racial and gender injustice, the Green New Deal plan would be mapping precisely that kind of far-reaching change.”
Did she mention everything? Let’s see: Medicare for all? Check. Minimum wage? Check. Police reform, voting rights, pay equality regardless of merit? Check, check, and check. Economic security for all those who are unable or unwilling to work? A big, fat check!
When you strip away the naiveté of a freshman congresswoman from the proposal, what’s left of the Green New Deal is a Hollywood-fueled publicity stunt. As Saul Alinsky wrote: “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Mitch McConnell exposed the sham when he said, okay, sure, let’s bring the Green New Deal proposal to the floor of the Senate for a vote. When he did, the only ones who would go on the record with a vote were Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, and Doug Jones of Alabama, together with Angus King of Maine, an independent, and all of them voted against the resolution. McConnell was accused of participating in “political theater” for doing his job and bringing the bill to a vote. Imagine! Allowing them to vote on their own bill was political theater!
It seems that for Democrats, knowing what they’re talking about is not as important as looking as though they know what they’re talking about. Sometimes they don’t even care about looking good.
With all her talk about saving the planet, AOC has put a new spin on the phrase “limousine liberal.” According to a story in the New York Post , she runs up Uber tabs like crazy. It wouldn’t be so bad if she had no other way to get around. But her congressional district, which includes parts of Queens and the Bronx, has about five or six subway lines.
She responded to the article in typical sanctimonious fashion: “Living in the world as it is isn’t an argument against working towards a better future.”
Hey, listen, girlfriend, you want to get driven around by Uber, go for it. But if you’re going to keep telling people the apocalypse is upon us, you might want to think about carrying a MetroCard.
And then there’s Maxine Waters. At a House Financial Services Committee hearing in April 2019, Waters, the Democrat chair of the committee, grilled banking CEOs about their role in student loan defaults. “What are you going to do about it?” she demanded of one banker. The banker sat there for a moment, perplexed. “We stopped making student loans back in 2007,” he finally answered. “So you don’t do it anymore?” Waters wondered aloud. Embarrassed for her, the banker shook his head. During the Obama administration, all student loans had been taken over by the federal government. So just to be clear, the congressional chairperson of the committee that oversees federal student loans didn’t know that the government she worked for was in charge of all student loans. Now you know why my father says she’s a low-IQ person.
With ignorance at the wheel of a see-through proposal the size and audacity of the Green New Deal, only bad things can happen. When pressed, Democrats can’t even defend it. All they can do is point fingers at the right and say ridiculous things like “You don’t love the planet.” Right. That’s it.
Though some people dismiss AOC as a flash in the pan, or the flavor of the day, they shouldn’t. With more than 5 million Twitter followers and more than 3 million Instagram followers, she’s a socialist star. She’s been on the cover of a half-dozen major magazines. If people think she and her socialist plans are going to disappear, they have another thing coming.
Today, she’s the leader of many socialist and socialist-leaning Democrats. Her squad of socialists is pushing an agenda that includes abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Department of Homeland Security, and the Electoral College, expanding the Supreme Court from nine to fifteen justices to ensure a liberal majority, mandating a $15 minimum wage (which would eliminate 4 million low-paying jobs), and paying for the health care of illegal immigrants. And that’s only some of the destruction it’s planning.
For instance, the Squad does little to hide its disdain for Israel. We should probably rename them “the Hamas caucus.” Omar opened a recent panel discussion by saying, “I want to talk about the political influence in this country that says it is okay for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.” Her inference was that Jewish members of Congress were more loyal to Israel than to the United States. Earlier, she had tweeted that politicians support Israeli causes because Jews have money to donate. The House of Representatives voted to condemn anti-Semitism in response to her remarks. Both Omar and Rashida Tlaib are supporters of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. Endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, BDS pressures economic leaders to withdraw support from Israel and to support reparations for the descendants of slaves.
Pressley, the least scrutinized of the Squad, is no better. Though the Squad is quick to play the racism card under any circumstance, Pressley engages in a sort of in-kind racism, demanding that people of color follow the Socialist Party line. “We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need any more black faces that don’t want to be a black voice,” she said at a Democrat activist convention. Can there be only one black or brown voice? Can they not have different opinions? Well, it seems not, at least not according to the radicals.
That rhetoric and those views might seem radical to a normal person, but they’ve already entered the mainstream of the Democrat Party. Twenty-one of the thirty-two candidates the Democratic Socialists of America endorsed in the past midterm election won. According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, 84 percent of Republicans have a negative view of socialism, while nearly two-thirds of Democrats (65 percent) have a positive one.
Socialists have made America’s youths their prime target. The magazine Teen Vogue spreads the propaganda and has become a socialism influencer for teenage girls. Along with flattering profiles of Karl Marx and Bernie Sanders, it has run articles that criticized capitalism, promoted prostitution as a career choice, and described anal sex. The Socialism 2019 conference in Chicago, which had the tag line “No Borders, No Bosses, No Binary,” invited the magazine to hold a panel discussion.
Like the weaponizing of the new left in the late 1960s, today’s radical left has resorted to terrorism. We’ll talk a lot about Antifa in the pages ahead, but for now, please know that AOC and her Squad are perfectly fine with the deadly violence the organization engages in. Last July, an Antifa activist showed up at an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington, armed with a rifle and incendiary devices. Washington State Patrol police shot him dead as he was trying to blow up a propane tank next to the facility with a Molotov cocktail. When asked on Sunday-morning news shows if they condemned the terrorist attack, none of the Squad would answer the question. Then, in reference to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Ilhan Omar brushed them off by saying, “Some people did something.”
