Nares:

Nares: The term means the nostrils of a fish.

Otolith:

Rip-rap:

Basic Trout Fishing Techniques

Trout Fishing with Nightcrawlers

Step #1:

Step #1: Hook half of a night crawler once (and only once) at either end.

Step #2: Approach the body of water quietly from downstream. Keep yourself well hidden from the fish.

This can be down quite effectively with only a gentle upstream cast. You can also accomplish this by drifting the bait down to the pool of water from upstream.
