Every writer needs a few good people to knock around a story with. I am blessed to have my husband, who is willing to repeatedly talk over lots of scenarios, or listen to me grieve over what’s happening with my characters as though they were real people—and they are… to me. He’s a man of many talents, and knows at least a little bit about a lot, which is hugely beneficial when writing in this genre.

My last series, in a different genre, seemed to bring me the salt of the earth-type readers, many who became my good friends, and this series didn’t disappoint in that aspect either. While not everybody is going to like every book, many people—mostly men—were impressed that a woman could write post-apocalyptic. I’ve had hundreds of emails and p.m.’s from them, and I thank each and every one of you for encouraging me to write the next book.

Special thanks go out to John Breland. He was one of those readers that reached out to me, and we’ve since become buddies. John is a man with an analytical mind, and a creative streak waiting to be explored. I count myself lucky that he took an interest in my work, and helped navigate me through some bumps in the road. Some scenes in Shoot Like a Girl were imagined and/or inspired by John. Thanks so much, John.

Also, thanks to Chuck B., Pete O., John R., and Ralph E., from the Facebook prepping groups who allowed me to write characters inspired by them—you guys will have to play another game of Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who dies first. Let me know how that turns out.

In determining what sort of event this series would focus on, research led the author to a recent conclusion by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that states cyber-attacks are eclipsing terrorism as the primary threat facing the United States. The world, including the U.S., has also been hit with many more natural disasters lately, than ever before.

The threats are real. The danger is imminent. The need to prep and prepare in order to protect your family is essential.
